“Leftists call for removal of 3 army bases”
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization which gleeful smears Conservative organizations as “hate groups”, has produced some commentary about the Confederate statue problem. Get rid of three army bases. Now, these aren’t little outposts in Alaska, but the three largest military bases our country posses, Forts Hood, Bragg and Benning. Some simple googling led to these revelations. Lets have a little more detail.
Fort Bragg is named for Confederate General Braxton Bragg, who was kinda a bad commander, so I don’t know why they named a fort after him. Anyway, “it is the home of the Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps and is the headquarters of the United States Army Special Operations Command, which oversees the U.S. Army 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) (Provisional) and 75th Ranger Regiment. It is also home to the U.S. Army Forces Command, U.S. Army Reserve Command, and Womack Army Medical Center.”
Fort Benning, (named after another terrible general) “is the home of the United States Army Maneuver Center of Excellence, the United States Army Armor School, United States Army Infantry School, the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (formerly known as the School of the Americas), elements of the 75th Ranger Regiment (United States), 3rd Brigade – 3rd Infantry Division, and many other additional tenant units.”
Fort Hood, *sigh* is named after another clumsy Confederate general and “is one of the largest United States military installations in the world, and is the home of III Corps, 1st Cavalry Division, 13th Sustainment Command, First Army Division West, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, 41st Fires Brigadeand many other Forces Command and other units.”
So, long story short, radical leftists want to remove, not rename, these forts. To anyone who had bothered researching those bases, they would know that would be utterly impossible. It would cripple our Special Forces, several invaluable Infantry institutions (including the Infantry School), several Airborne units, the Army’s Reserve forces command and not to mention the thousands of civilian and non-combat military jobs the bases provide. This is yet another example of how radical leftism is kinda going nuts. I have no doubt there are leftists who are good people, certain, actually, that these crazies are merely a small but vocal minority.
